Research Interests

Prior to 2012, my effort was mostly focused on galaxies at the highest possible redshifts (allowed by the technologies then) and on the mass assembly history of galaxies over cosmic time. The HST WFC3-IR and the Spitzer IRAC marked the high points of our capabilities in these two fields, respectively. Most of the critical questions that could be answered have already been answered, and the rest will have to wait for the next breakthrough in technology. I am, like so many others are, holding breath for the JWST, which will give us real hope in answering the most interesting questions, such as when the first stars and the first galaxies appeared.

In the meantime, my focus has shifted to understanding dust-embedded star formation in galaxies, i.e., understanding far-IR galaxies (FIRGs) and to some extend SMGs as well. In particular, the Herschel surveys have left a wealth of data awaiting exploration, and there are a lot can be done through counterpart identification of the Herschel FIRGs of special interests.
